Cameron is pretty regular about his eating, but I always carry with me a few scoops of formula in a baby cube to add to his water bottle (which I always have, too) just in case he is he starving and we are out and about. I make sure to wrap a rubber band around the cube to prevent any spills! This came in handy last Friday when we were visiting Dad at work and needed a snack.

I’m working on organizing a mom’s night out for October 7th somewhere in Fort Greene / Clinton Hill (I’ll post the location once I get more of an idea of the number of people who might attend).

Mom's Night Out!
If you are interested, please post a comment with your email address and I will include you on the evite (FYI – I won’t publish your comment, so the addresses will remain private). Everyone is welcome! Also, if you have any suggestions of where to have the event please feel free to share them.
I admit that quite often in my first time mommy experiences someone tells me something which, upon hearing it I think,” Oh right – that makes perfect sense. Duh!” I had one of these moments at Cameron’s 9 month check up. I was talking to his pediatrician about food. She asked me if Cameron was feeding himself (finger foods) and I said “no,” and that he “wasn’t very good at it.” She suggested that every meal time I put the tray on his high chair and let him practice picking up some finger foods. Ah – Practice! This had never occurred to me (duh!) I guess I sort of figured it would just come to him…. Anyways, after a week or so of practice with his Organic Puffs Cameron has really improved!
I first heard about these puffs from another mom. They dissolve in baby’s mouth easily and they come in 3 “flavors” (I think they all taste the same) – banana, apple, and veggie. You can get them from Fresh Direct, at Elly’s on Dekalb, and at the Associated on Myrtle. If you aren’t in Fort Greene / Clinton hill check your local grocery in the baby section or get them from Amazon (the price is better than local, and they come with free shipping – you can even get 15% off if you subscribe and save making them only about $2.60 each). They are made by Happy Baby, and boy, do they make my baby happy!
Giving waffles to Cameron was an idea I got from Celia. The first time he tasted them, he pumped his fists in the air and grunted. It would be an understatement to say he was excited! Plus, mom sure doesn’t mind eating them too.
I toast them lightly in the toaster oven and put a little butter on to soften them up. I like to serve them with fruit pieces – either peaches or banana – but I’m sure whatever fruit your little one likes would work.
This past Saturday I got some peaches at the Fort Greene farmer’s market. They are finally becoming nice and ripe so I had one this morning and shared some with Cameron. I had tried giving him peaches a few weeks ago and he wasn’t very interested in them, but today he seemed to really enjoy it. I guess it’s important to remember to keep trying foods because something that wasn’t ok one day might be yummy the next!
When I was a kid my dad always used to make me cream of wheat – so it seemed like a natural choice when I was looking for things that I could eat along with Cameron. I’ve been making the Cream of Wheat with a little water and a little milk, as well as bananas, which add a natural sweetness. I add the bananas while the Cream of Wheat is still cooking – so it sort of dissolves right in there. Cameron loves it! Soon I’ll be giving it a try with some other fruits as well. Yum (for mommy and baby!)
Cameron has decided that he is most interested in eating whatever I’m eating, and has been pretty sassy about eating the pureed foods I was used to giving him. So, per Celia’s suggestion I tried giving him veggie burger patties. He LOVES them, and they make a nice lunch for me as well. I’ve been giving him Dr. Praeger’s, although I might try a few brands to see what his preference is. I get mine from Fresh Direct, but I’ve been told they have them at Elly’s Market on Dekalb, and at Fairway for the adventuresome types!
Cameron LOVES his fruit – bananas, pears, mangoes, papayas…… keeping all his fruit in the house caused a problem – a fruit fly problem! So I went to gardeners.com and checked out their solutions. I bought the Fruit Fly Trap with a Ceramic Box and after a few days all the fruit flies were gone.
I first heard about baby Mum Mum from a mommy friend, Celia. I recently bought some at Elly’s Market on Dekalb (for the locals). Cameron LOVES them! And I love watching him eat them because he can easily hold them and feed himself. Here is a link to Amazon which also has the mum mums. I promise your baby will think they are yum yum!
