As I reported for A Child Grows in Brooklyn, Clermont Pool (At Parham Playground / PS 20 on Clermont between Willoughby and Dekalb in Fort Greene) opens June 29th! I stopped by this morning on my way home from the sprinklers at Underwood Playground to check out the scene. I was happy to see it is full and ready for action! And boy, did it look refreshing. I took some pictures of the rules and posted signs to give you all an idea of what to expect. See you soon for a refreshing dip!

For those of you who are looking for something special to give Dad for father’s day – consider getting some of your digital prints printed out. Today we take so many pictures with our digital cameras and share them online – but it’s not the same as having the picture printed out and displayed in your home (or in dad’s office).
I take my prints to Walgreens (on Myrtle at Clermont) and they usually print them in a few hours. The cost is minimal (a few cents a print). They even sell some frames so you can complete the gift. It’s a very affordable present that any father would love.
I’m in the Walgreens on Myrtle and Clermont now and a saw they have H1N1 shots available (for adults). If you are interested head on over and check it out!

I’ve had the experience that when I try to get a flu shot at a doctor’s office they tell me that I’ll have to go on a waiting list because they aren’t sure if they will have enough. So, this year when I saw the sign at Walgreens advertising Flu Shots for $24.99 I went for it!
First off, it cost less than my co pay. Second, I went to the Walgreens at Clermont and Myrtle, which is a lot closer to home than my doctor! I went in the day before and made an appointment and picked up the paperwork – but it’s not really necessary.
So, consider Walgreens for your flu shot!
All summer I had many excuses as to why I wasn’t going to the pool at PS 20 / Parham Playground / Clermont pool in Fort Greene. “Someone told me it’s really cold.” ” I heard there are a lot of crazy strict rules.” “I think it might be too crowded.” Well, forget it. It’s not cold at all, and on a hot day it’s downright lovely. I even heard one kid exclaim to her mom “It’s warmer than the shower!” As far as the rules go, the only ones I ever see them enforce are in regards to running and jumping. I had heard there were restrictions about babies wearing hats, and wearing t shirts. If these rules do exist, they don’t seem to be enforced, so I wouldn’t worry about it. And while sometimes it can get a little crowded, its easy enough to roam around the pool, or sit your baby in the little side well where they can splash safely. Overall, I have to say I’m embarrassed for not having gone sooner this summer, but you can bet Cameron and I will be there every afternoon we can until it closes!
