It’s no secret that Cameron (and mom) love the sweet potato fries at 67 Burger here in Fort Greene. But we can’t be eating out there all the time, plus all that frying – though delicious – isn’t good for us. So I was trying to think of a way to make these at home, and make them a bit healthier too. Chatting with some moms one day at the park, I mentioned that I had bought some sweet potatoes that I was going to cut them up into sticks and bake in the oven. Someone commented that this was “awfully ambitious.” I thought to myself that they were right, and then a light bulb went off.

My husband and I order frozen fries all the time from Fresh Direct that we bake in the oven, and I knew there were sweet potato ones too made by the same brand – they are called Alexia Sweet Potato Julienne Fries with Sea Salt. I defrost them for a few seconds in the microwave and then finish heating them in the toaster oven. Cameron really loves them, and they are easy for me to make a few at a time.
UPDATE! – I just added some pictures I took today of the store, check the bottom of the post to see what the kids section looks like!
If you haven’t heard there’s exciting news for us Fort Greene / Clinton Hill residents – we’re finally getting a bookstore – and one that promises to have a decent Children’s Book section too! The store is called Greenlight Bookstore, and is located at 686 Fulton Street (on the corner of South Portland) in Fort Greene. Next Saturday (10/24) they are having an story time for kids of all ages at 10:00 AM.

Library Lion
Brooklynite Michelle Knudsen, author of the bestseller Library Lion, will read from her picture book, and will then sign copies of her books, which Greenlight Bookstore will have for sale. Book-related treats and prizes will be handed out to the kids. Of course, this event is FREE! I think it’s a great sign that the opening festivities for Greenlight Bookstore includes a children’s event – hopefully it will be a wonderful resource for mommies, babies, and kids alike!
Update: My hubby, Cameron and I stopped in the bookstore today after lunch at 67 Burger and before a birthday party. It was so nice! Really light, airy, and open. And the Children’s section was GREAT! It had books for all ages of kids. I am really excited to have it in the neighborhood. I took a few pictures of the kids section to share with you all

This Sunday was rainy and gloomy, and I wanted to get Cameron out of the house, but I wasn’t sure where to go. Usually on Sundays my husband and I get take out from 67 Burger for lunch, so I thought (inspired by Lunchtime with Tillie) that I would bring Cameron along and eat there. I have to admit I’ve only put him in a high chair once before at Connecticut Muffin, and it didn’t go well, so I was nervous. I ordered him the kids grilled cheese with sweet potato fries, and we sat in the front so he could watch the action on the street. He loved it, especially the pickles! We will certainly be back!

Yum Yum!
