Cameron has always had quite a head of hair, and it grows like a weed. I think we’ve cut it at least 6 times since his birth in November 08. And, as much as getting a nice professional hair cut sounds appealing, frankly, I don’t see the point in spending the money.

Cam gets his hair cut
This past weekend my hubby and I gave Cam his most recent hair cut, and we developed a new strategy to contain the hair – and wash him off quickly afterward. We cut his hair in the bath – pre bath time – then cleaned up as much as we could and put it in the trash, washed the tub out with the shower attachment, and then ran the bath so we could wash Cameron off.
It worked out pretty well – and the cut wasn’t half bad either. I think the more times we do the cut, the better we get at it. So don’t be afraid to try it at home and save yourself a few bucks! After all, it grows back!

I have tried to cut my son’s hair a few times and can barely get him to stop moving his head to let me! Any tips on keeping a 19 month old from flipping out is really helpful!
I can’t say Cameron really sits still. More we take quick snips here and there and hope to create a whole hair cut in the sitting (maybe a second is required sometimes…) Perhaps putting him in a bath seat, if he has one? Or if you still have your bumbo around (and your son fits in it even..) Other than that, maybe it’s like trimming your cat’s nails – the more you do it the more used to it they become, and the easier the whole process is? Any other moms have some advice?
Good Luck!!
Hey Betsy, I wish I came across your site sooner! I’m first time mom to son Calder, also born in November 2008. We live in Clinton Hill. I’ve only given Calder one haircut, and he freaked. I think I will try again this weekend, in the tub. I had the same thought– no way to make it easier doing it routinely, so that he gets used to it. We used electric clippers, which are loud. ITs especially tricky b/c he’s got a double cowlick in the back. Anyway, Calder’s grandma is babysitting him next week, and I’m going to send them to Storytime at the library, so we’ll maybe they’ll see Cameron, and maybe you’ll see the haircut results.
Good luck Suzi! Using Clippers is pretty brave! I think we will stick to scissors for now. Maybe try letting Calder investigate the clippers before the cutting begins and they will seem less scary? See you around the ‘hood!
