A little while ago Cameron came down with a rash. Of course, being a first time mom I didn’t know what the rash was, so I brought him into the pediatrician. She told me it was a heat rash and gave me some suggestions for treating it. 1) Put him in light, loose fitting clothing (see, Lucky Wang) 2) Keep him out of the heat and sun as much as possible and 3) Give him a bath with Corn Starch or Baking Soda. Of course, for good measure I added both Corn Starch and Baking Soda to his bath. In a day, he was all better! So – baby got heat rash? Baking Soda and Corn Starch! Not sure if he has heat rash? Call your pediatrician! Fair warning, the google image search for baby heat rash is a little scary!
I took this pic of Cameron’s before I went to the Pediatrician (which was a good idea since his seemed to come and go if he was in the AC or out in the heat)

Cameron's rash

Baking Soda and Corn Starch Bath - all better!
Update: I still use this soothing bath when Cameron has any kind of rash – namely, diaper rash.
New Yorkers know that the summer months can be brutal… and mommies know that we want our babies to be as cool and comfy as possible! That’s why I love Lucky Wang kimonos. They are made out of super light all cotton fabric, and they are loose fitting. If they can’t go naked, then put them in this! I got mine on sale at Area Kids (for the locals: 45 Fifth Avenue) but you can get them on Amazon too. Plus, they have their own website, and stores in the city. Check it out. Your baby will thank you!
Each week a group of Moms with Under 1 year olds meets in Fort Greene Park around 11am at the top of the park near the monument. Of course, dads are also welcome! New people show up all the time, so don’t be nervous – come on over and introduce yourself and your little one. It’s nice to get out and see some other parents and to talk about whats going on with the babies. I’ve gotten so much useful information and support. Come check us out!

X marks the Moms with Under 1's spot!
If the weather is bad we meet at the Conneticut Muffin on Lafayette.
In New York life is expensive, so I am all about FREE! Especially when it’s something fun and educational for Cameron. Every Tuesday at 10:45 and 11:30 Clinton Hill Library has reading (and singing) for babies with some play time afterwards. It’s a great time to get the babies interested in books, and hanging out with eachother. Plus, I’ve met some other moms and dads (local baby celeb Tillie is there!) For the next 2 weeks they will be on break, and movies will be shown at 11am, but the reading will return August 18th.

Clinton Hill Library
Find out more at the Brooklyn Public Library website. The Clinton Hill branch is located at 380 Washington Ave. at Lafayette Ave, right around the corner from Underwood Park.
Don’t live in Fort Greene / Clinton Hill? Check your local library for similar programs! It’s a great FREE resource!
I first heard about baby Mum Mum from a mommy friend, Celia. I recently bought some at Elly’s Market on Dekalb (for the locals). Cameron LOVES them! And I love watching him eat them because he can easily hold them and feed himself. Here is a link to Amazon which also has the mum mums. I promise your baby will think they are yum yum!
I’m all about decorating Cameron’s room with non-baby centric items. I found these Blik stickers through a friend. I think they are super cute, and Cameron loves staring at them. They have all kinds of different themes and designs. The stickers are removable, movable, and don’t hurt the paint.
Is your baby a little fashionista? Make sure she is super chic with the help of Chic Squirt – a new mom’s guide for stylish tots, run by Clinton Hill Local, Celia (and baby Claire, pictured)
Living in New York almost always means living in a small apartment, which can make being quiet while a baby is sleeping quite challenging. I originally got a set of wireless headphones for our TV in the bedroom so that I could go to sleep and my husband could stay up and watch TV without bothering me. But when Cameron came along we moved the headphones out to the living room so that I could watch TV in the daytime while he was napping and not make a peep. It works out great – a must have for people who live in tiny apartments!
